[Misunderstandings]

Due to their sense of mystery and Eastern visual charm, Chinese characters have become an indispensable element in Far Eastern aesthetics. In the 18th-century French "Chinoiserie" trend, these characters were often indecipherable, and foreign painters seemed to care little about their meanings, focusing instead on their visual form and the aesthetic effect they had in compositions. Chinese characters were treated more as decoration than as real text. This attitude of separating the form of the characters from their content reflects a misunderstanding of Far Eastern aesthetics.

However, Chinese characters originally began as pictographs. In this series, AI mistakenly turns the word "misunderstanding" into a visual representation by repeatedly inputting and outputting the characters for "mis" (誤) and "understanding" (會). As an AI-generated image, "misunderstanding" becomes both controllable and uncontrollable, with indecipherable characters becoming the essence of a strange Far Eastern aesthetic. The visual forms of "mis" and "understanding" are input into the AI image algorithm multiple times, eventually becoming unrecognizable. As a result, the meaning behind the term "misunderstanding" is re-examined and reshaped.
